臨溪夜鶯──賀英進五班版開張

這個學年我兼了英文系進修學士班五年級的導師，這真是天上掉下來的禮物，因為跟這一班的同學相處，就好像朋友一樣，自在快樂。為了慶祝班版部落格開張，我給班版取了個版名──臨溪夜鶯──希望同學喜歡。以下略述其來源背景：

東吳大學本部位於外雙溪「臨溪」路 70 號，故以「臨溪」表示我們的地理位置。「夜鶯」與「夜英」同音，「夜英」乃「夜間部英文系」的簡稱，為英文系進修學士班的前身，顯示我們的身份。除此之外，「臨溪夜鶯」尚有「臨著溪畔的夜鶯」之意。夜鶯 (nightingale) 是一種經常出現在文學作品中、叫聲清脆婉轉的鳥，能夠適切地形容活潑開朗的本班，在知識的長河邊（臨溪），爭相吸取養分，如夜鶯般滿足快樂地鳴啼。茲引用英國詩人濟慈 (John Keats) 膾炙人口的名詩〈夜鶯頌〉 (Ode to a Nightingale) 最後一個詩節 (stanza) 做為參考：

Forlorn! the very word is like a bell
To toll me back from thee to my sole self!
Adieu! the fancy cannot cheat so well
As she is fam'd to do, deceiving elf.
Adieu! adieu! thy plaintive anthem fades
Past the near meadows, over the still stream,
Up the hill-side; and now 'tis buried deep
In the next valley-glades:
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?
