Watch out! 期末考來了!

離期末考只剩不到一個禮拜,希望同學努力準備。我的考試一向都是「一分耕耘一分收穫」的,只要念,就會有分;念得熟,就會考得好。大家加油!

同期中考的作法,我現在把每一科考試的題型、應答說明貼在這裡,請同學看清楚了。期末考的這段期間,請好好照顧自己身體,考試當天請提早出門,寧可早到,不要遲到。


英語詞彙學

請注意,介紹音樂時有一個小錯誤:orchestra 是「管弦樂團」,不是管弦樂。「管弦樂」是 orchestral music。另外,請千萬記得,每一課的習題都要做,課本後面的參考答案也要研讀!期末考只有兩大題,各佔 50 分,每一大題各有 25 題,每題 2 分。

Part I. Word Recognition. For each of the following English words / expressions, give its Chinese equivalent/translation you have learned in class. 50%

Part II. Word Production. For each of the following Chinese expressions, give its English equivalent you have learned in class. 50%

英語構詞法

共有三大題,分別佔 20、40、40 分,各有 10、20、20 題,每題 2 分。

Part I. Word Origins. For each of the following English words, explain (in English or Chinese) wherefrom and how it is derived. Recount the story if there is one behind it. Follow the examples. 20%
e.g. pasta Loanword from Italian, in which it means "paste" (made mainly from flour and water)
panic Eponym based on Pan, a mythological Greek god of woods, fields, and flocks, whose presence would allegedly be a source of terror in flocks or herds
jeans Toponym based on Genoa, an industrial city in Italy where such fabric was first made
photo Clipped form of photograph
brunch Blend of breakfast and lunch

Part II. Word Recognition. For each of the following English words, give its equivalent / translation in Chinese. 40%

Part III. Word Production. For each of the following Chinese expressions, give its English equivalent we have learned in this course. 40%

英語詞源學/英語詞源研究

這兩門課題型、考法一樣,但內容不同。共分四大題,分別佔 40、10、20、30 分,除第一大題每題 4 分外,其餘均每題 2 分,故分別有 10、5、10、15 題。

Part I. Word Analysis. Analyze, in English or Chinese, the following English words into their constituent components with glosses, give their holistic etymological meanings, and relate them to their current senses. 40%

e.g. ambidextrous (1) ambi-: both dextr: right hand -ous: adj suffix (2) both right-handed (3) having two right (i.e. nimble & skillful) hands means that a person is able to use both the left hand and the right hand equally well, hence the current sense

Part II. Words in Context. Given the Latin roots in the parentheses, fill in the blanks with English words (with proper conjugations or declensions) derived therefrom that best fit the contexts. 10%

e.g. His resignation precipitated a leadership crisis. (cap/capit/capt/ceps/cipit)

Part III. Word Production. Based on what you have learned in this class, provide the following Chinese expressions with their English equivalents. 20%

e.g. 趣味競賽 fun and games

Part IV. Word Recognition. Provide the following English words with their Chinese equivalents or translations. 30%

e.g. subsidiarity 權力下放

發現caesarian在字典裡的拼法為caesarean
不知哪個拼法才是正確的?
